Unassuming, modest, calm, disciplined, unselfish, impartial, patient and encouraging. Words I use to describe myself and my football abilities these days.

Being out injured with a complete thickness tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, shredded meniscus and internal knee effusions, I honestly feel I have become more philosophical in my outlook both in general life and on the field of play. After that awful landing on a sloping Holland Park pitch in 2005 culminating in two operations, months of physiotherapy, gym work and plenty of alcohol to maintain focus, I am on the brink of a slow but measured return to the beautiful game after two punishing years in the football wilderness.

I hope that my time out has made me a better player and person. My aim is to quietly slip back into the regime, work my way into the Bees if deemed good and fit enough and then progress from there. There are a lot of young, committed, fit, technical and physical players in the ranks of this club so it will never be easy. I’ll need to work hard - particularly on my confidence and mental strength.

To achieve my aim I do like to look up to people like Rio Ferdinand. He was out for a year, maintained his dignity, popularity and unswerving loyalty to colleagues, club and country to return at the highest level lean, mean and hungry.
